Impending death of a Kurdish political prisoner Afshin Sohrabzadeh

The Iranian government holds thousands citizens in prison, among them hundreds of political activists, dissidents, journalists and members of banned exiled political parties. The government sees and deals with them strictly as a security issue.

Several rights groups are warning about “the impending death” of a political prisoner Afshin Sohrabzadeh. His mother holds Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei responsible for the safety of her son.

Political prisoner Afshin Sohrabzadeh suffers from colon cancer. He was transferred to Tehran from Minab prison for treatment three months ago, but was returned to Minab without any treatment. Human Rights Defenders Association of Kurdistan – HRDAK reports he has critical health conditions with internal bleeding and serious risk of death.

Mother of the political prisoner Zybh Babasfry has told HRDAK, her son was transferred back to Minab and holds supreme leader ayatollah Khamenei responsible for the safety and life of him. She also warns about impending death of Sohrabzadeh and requests human rights organizations to intervene and save her son.
